A Canadian Slybaby

He sure does not look like a baby does he? This is Molson, he just turned two years old. His mother was a daughter of Docs Adonis, so he is a really well bred colt. Unfortunately, Molson was her last foal--so it is a good thing she did so well with him.

He looks a lot like Sly, doesn't he? Definitely in the face, and some expressions and mannerisms.
While he has the crazy hair, it is not the patented Sly day glo fro that so many of them have--he only has about a tenth as much hair as his daddy.
Carrie has no idea how grateful she should be about that!

He is not as tall as Sly yet and at this exact moment, certainly fatter than Sly. That is not hard, unless it is winter, then it is very difficult to be fatter than Sly. I was really thrown when I first saw Molson, it is just eerie how much the babies all look alike, and Molson really looks good. I cannot wait to see how he changes when he gets to the trainer, which should be in September, I think.

I have a whole other photo session of him, but have not gotten to those photos yet-- I know they are better though, with better lighting. Stay tuned

Much needed cheerful news

This is Fidget, another Slybaby born to an outside mare. She was due around the same time as Aries and Gypsy, but was late. Her mom is a NBHA money earner, a Streakin Six mare, and I think that is the plan for Fidget as well.

First Slybaby of 2008 has made her appearance

At 7 am today, the sister of Coco Lou Magoo arrived in Decatur. I hear she is even better than Coco, who was sure a beautifully put together baby girl. New filly, whose name I do not know yet, was a little early, by a week or so.

Her owners, Tom and Andrea, said the only thing wrong with her is her color--evidently they got another sorrel. Maggie the mama is a dark sorrel and Coco was about her same color. This new girl is a lighter red color.

As soon as I get pics, I will post them.

Congrats Tom and Andrea!

Updates from Far and Wide-the Shooter Chronicles

I just received photos of a far-flung Slybaby named Shooter (AQHA Slydun Dirty- I LOVE that name), that lives in Texas. He is a late 2006 palomino dun colt, and waiting his turn to be started under saddle. The plan for him is to show him in working cow horse classes, and he ought to be just perfect
for that. His dam is a granddaughter of Handle Bar Doc, out of a barrel mare.
I cannot wait to see him shed off this summer with his darker coat, and his dorsal stripe really sticking out.
Good luck with him, Tina, and keep us posted of his progress. We know you will set the show pen on fire!

I have undercover operatives

Who knew? Although now that I think about it, I do not know why I am surprised. Head and Linda live in the same area where the attacked-by -dogs Slybaby lives, so it should have occurred to me that they would go see about him...yet I was still surprised when they called last nite and had just left there.

They went to the owner's house, said they were my friends and wanted to see short stuff to send me pics. Just went right up in there and stated their business, just like that.

They were shown to baby boy Tuff, who is already weaned. He was born on June 24, so he is not yet three months old. They were told he is weaned, because "she just needed them all weaned". He is in a paddock with 6 or 8 weanlings that came from South Dakota, and are at least 3, possibly 4 times his size. He is tiny tiny tiny, and has not even shed his foal coat yet.

As far as good things, there were plenty of buckets lined up for feeding, and no one was skinny. There was some hay there.

I do not know how to explain the condition of the Slybaby other than that he was born early, weaned way too early, and is in a pack of horses who evidently are not missing any of their meals. His butt is sunken in, he is ribby and needs his feet done--but she did say she was worming them all today, even though none of them are halter broke yet, so it should be a spectacle. Not that mine are all halter broke yet either--some are- but they are not weaned yet and I did not just buy a truckload of more of them, and am not awaiting delivery of another truckload of them.

I do have pictures of him, but I cannot bear to post them. I can only pray she does not tell people that he is a Slybaby, as I do not want saddled with responsibility for his condition (you know how people can be about things like that). While the owner claims that she has gotten too big too fast (61 horses, you think?), Tuff is not for sale as he has ben through too much. You would think that would entitle him to a reasonable amount of time nursing from his mother, but what do I know.

I sure hope this is a temporary condition and that things will be fine. I can only pray that things will work out fine for all of them there.

Slybabies in a row

Here is a pack of two year olds having dinner in the front pasture. They have signed on and in a hurry to the Strategy plan--they are so busy scarfing it down that they do not waste time arguing with each other about which pile is better. There were actually about 8 horses in this pasture, but they did not all fit in the frame.,....they looked so cute all lined up in a row.
It is so wierd to me that they are all so similar, but I rarely think of it until I see a photo like this

Who is this?

It was bound to happen. I just did not think it would be so soon. I have no idea who this horse is. It could be Phoenix. It might be Hemi. It might be CC. Or Harley. I honestly have no idea who this is, and I just took the picture today. If I could see her face, then I would know for sure...but I cannot so I don't.
It is so cool that all of Sly's babies look alike, but I feel like such an idiot!
