Barry: Do you think these eggs are still good?
Me: Yes. What would be wrong with them?
Barry: Maybe they turned into little chickens.
Do other people have these conversations at their houses?
This was his second full day at home, and I think he is getting some idea of what it is like to be me. Everything he has tried to do for two days has been a mess--so very little has been done, except for multiple trips to and from Lowes and TSC. The mower has broken again, after he spent hours sharpening the blades and fighting with them, and fixing the gas line that was all jacked up. Still it does not idle right. We were waiting for the vet to arrive this afternoon and when they called and said they were delayed, I called Barry and told him that there was time to run the mower to the dealer about 30 miles away. While there, he could get a new pin for the bushhog--the old one broke, and he has bought two since then, and neither of them fit. He got loaded up and I called him again to tell him to abort, do not leave town, vet is in range.
The vet had to check Gypsy to see if she needs semen-woo hoo, she does! So that is ordered, to arrive on Friday morning. She is being bred to Pepto Taz. Doc also saw her baby with the projectile shits. We thought she was better, but evidently she is just not getting it on her hiney. Poor baby, so she is now on the pepto and Biosponge. I fully suspect she will be fine, but I am always on the alert for bad tummies, since we have had the bad outcome on that with the occasional foal. With the numbers we have, it is inevitable--but please, not this one!
The vet also preg-checked Haida Girl--a stretch to see it at this stage, but he is really good, so we gave it a shot. And Woo hoo--there it was! I cannot wait to call the sire's owner in the morning and confirm that it is going well.
Diablo got flushed, baby's legs checked and pronounced swell. Snap's baby had her legs checked and he decided she needed to be wrapped on her hind legs after all. Her tendons are a little tight, but I am sure a couple of days of stall rest will drop them right down. I have to take a picture tomorrow to show you how precious she is with lime green quilts and hot pink wraps on her little teeny legs. She was good for the wrapping, but got good and mad when she was all wrapped up and could walk off. Most horses will pick their legs up really high when they first are wrapped. This one swung them out to the side and gave me the evil eye. So funny in a little half pint like that.
Normally, I would have been on call for the vet, and that would have caused me to work half the nite. Actually, I save my lunch hour for vet visits most of the time--but since Barry could be there, I was able to save my lunch hour for spinning class, which I desperately needed. It is nice to not have to cut something I need from the schedule.
While all this was going on, I worked late, had a good spinning class, rescheduled with the Beast who had to cancel earlier this week, and rushed home to check on Tequila, who was the unfortunate recipient of an ass kicking by the Queen last nite. Someone did not pull the house door all the way shut, and Simba got in while I was mowing--and went straight for Tequila's throat, as far as I can tell. Poor Quila was terrified, but other than being sore and a small ouch on her butt, it looks like Simba failed in her mission. Breaks my heart for Quila though, she was just becoming comfortable again, and acting like a normal dog who feels good--and now we have this set back. As I type this, she is in her room, so sore she cannot get in bed, and has her feed dish laying by her. She looks like she is sleeping with her dinner. I can so relate to that!
Now to bed I go-tomorrow is Marvin marathon day. Best part: I don't have to be there! Barry is going to deal with it, so I can work work work and not burn any vacation time to deal with it. Worst part: This may be Marvin's last visit, due to his move.

MY gosh Paige ! It just never ends at your house !!
I thought my life was hectic!!
Well I guess I missed the last job update...I hope things work out well with that. And yes I think we have silly conversations around here like that too!!! That made me LOL!!
I read the whole post, I swear to god I did, but I can't stop laughing at "they may have turned into little chickens". Little chickens...bwahahahahaha!!!
I think you do more in a day that we do in a week here. But more horses mean more work right? We are still waiting on our first and only baby of the year - a Sly grandbaby!!! Should arrive in 10 days or so - if she follows her pattern of foaling with a day of her due date.
I think it is good that Barry is getting a taste of all you do. But I am sure he will find a new job soon!!
Hugs to the little girl with the wraps...can't wait to see pics.
Paige, I don't know how you do it all! Can't wait to see the pics.
Thanks for leading me to your blog via twitter, I am really having fun reading! Lovely writing and photography.
