There is another sister in this family that has yet to make the blog very often because she is never around and thus, I can never take pics of her to post. But she was here this week because she was being inducted into our high school's sports hall of fame--only the second female basketball player to be inducted since they started the hall of fame a few years ago.
Rasheeda was one of mom's special players when she coached her in junior high. So special that she somehow ended up as part of our family. She is nine years younger than me, and six years younger than Mandy, and I am pretty sure mom was glad to have kids out of her house and then she got Rasheeda.
She had a lot of rough stuff going on around her when mom coached her. And God knows Mom cannot let a situation alone when she thinks she can straighten things out and something about Rasheeda sucked her in. They have stayed really close ever since. She sometimes even spends holidays with us, which as you know is not for the faint of heart!
You cannot help but love her. She is a lot of fun, but she is also all business. She is so intense and so dedicated to whatever she is doing. She was a two time All-American juco player and a star at Bradley where she went to finish college. She has an education degree, but has been busying coaching basketball ever since. She is currently at southern Illinois as an assistant coach.
At Rasheeda Love nite, the current basketball team al donned old jerseys in her number. It was cute.
She got to address the crowd, and as usual, was well spoken and represented herself well. She always does.
I was trying to make her laugh while she was doing interviews, but mostly that just got me pics of looking goofy-- Which I am holding back to use to blackmail her into doing something for me someday.
This is her and mom after the doings on Tuesday nite. Mom is really proud of her, because she has worked so hard. She is impressive to me, because she is living proof that anyone from any background no matter the situation CAN make something huge of themselves if they just set their mind to it. Not many people have the kind of mind and dedication and intensity that she does, and of course having the talent that she has got her a long way, but she used it for what it could get her....an education and opportunities. She is such a great example.

She sounds like an amazing woman.
That's awesome, it's great to hear a success story.
What a great story for all who read your blog to enjoy.
It's a special tribute to your Mom that Rasheed still includes her in her "memories".
As support personal in a classroom working with students---it was so rewarding to "bump" into them long after graduation and they would "tell you something they remembered about you".
A wonderful tribute to your mom.
enjoy carol
Paige, that was very well done on Rasheeda. I'm sending her your blog address, but if you want to email her, I have her address.
Love you,
Mom
She's better than us. We suck next to her! She's the one Mom really likes.
Could we be prouder of who she is? I'm so glad you got to see her. What a nice tribute from MVTHS.
