Scenes from a sorting

My sorting pics did not come out too well, as I knew they would not, since I do not have the f2.8 lens yet. And of course, I am limited to shots I can take from the judge's stand, in between figuring the pot and payback and running bills, etc. I did sneak out early and get some shots outside
We have some pretty accomplished riders at our shows, but not all of them put it on their trailer. Don't kid yourself, I would damn sure do that if I had something to claim!
Pre-game rest stop.

Waiting patiently for his class
This is one of our better riders--he cleans up no matter where in the country he shows. He is also one of the most genuinely enjoyable guys to be around, I always like it when he is there.
This is Les, he is a super nice guy who has a Slybaby named Cool this year.
Mikah, she shows pretty consistently and is usually in the running for one of the buckles.
This pic sucks but I still liked the position of the horse. This is Hutch, he owns the place and rarely gets to show, but he had someone else to help announce the first two classes so he could get some rides in.
This is a little better shot of Hutch and his horse, Dean.
Caleb and one of their yellow horses.
Head and Woodrow who was thrilled to be there--Woodrow likes sorting.
Steve the preacher and his paint horses, whose name I do not know, but whose little grandkids rode him around after the show. One of Steve's kids has another paint that looks a lot like this one, so there were a matched set of kids and horses riding in the arena after everyone else cleared out
Caleb getting a good launching
Richard moving the herd.
Woodrow pulling off a calf
Bill coming into the herd.

I so miss the days of outside shows in the spring, summer and fall-- I can get some great shots outside.

Your pics are great as usual-----

How exciting ( for me)!

I guess "sorting" is trying to find a certain cow and "sort" it out of the bunch ? ? ? ?

Enjoy Carol

I love it! I would love to watch this competition! We pretty much just go to ropings. What a great time, I love all our friends in the roping circle. Horse people are awesome!

I like all of these, but really really like the #2 horse (dark one) tied to the trailer by himself. That's a good shot.

how did you get such clear shots inside? What were your settings? Did you use a flash?

Yeah that was a good one, wasnt it holly? The only one with good lighting.

Yes Carol, you sort out the cow whose number is called--move him across the time line, then move the rest of them in number order. You have 60 seconds (in our barn) to get as many as possible out, in the right order

Very cool, I did always enjoy going to shows. They are so pretty and fun to watch, and I do so love the smell of them (at the barn and inside shows). I enjoy riding a lot too I just don't do it that often and whatnot. I think I have a hard time reading a horse's emotions as I'm not used to them/they aren't as apparent as say a dog's is to me. But yeah, I love shows!
