Surprise Party

This weekend was the surprise party for my Aunt Jana's 60th Birthday, so off mom and I went on a 300 plus mile trip to the location---the Blue Chip Casino and Hotel in Michigan City, Indiana. We got there about 4 pm yesterday, and met up with her in the casino bar The Rocks. She had no idea we were coming--heck, she thought it was just her and Kim, but had already been surprised by her best friend Cheryl, and her other friend Susie, Susie's daughter Annie, and her friend Carla. I cannot believe she was really that surprised by it all, but Kim did a good job of convincing her that it was just a weekend for the two of them.

This is my mom, my cousin Kim and my aunt Jana.

This is Susie, Annie and Carla

We had a lot of fun, we hung out in the bar most of the afternoon, then had appetizers in Susie's room. Pretty much all of my experiences with Susie over the years involve cheese and meat for snacking. I guess that is not strange since she is from Wisconsin. She brings a mean cheese selection to activities. After appetizers and cocktails, we had dinner at a steakhouse. As usual, I was way too stuffed and had just soup and grilled asparagus--really really good.

We had a great time. My face hurts from laughing.

The down side to these trips is when I have to share a room with my mom. That woman is like a circus in her sleep--she does not just snore, she chirps and coughs and talks and even growls kind of like a dog or Rock when she is mad. It was the longest night of my life and that was before her stupid noisemaker thing in her purse went berserk and set itself off every 15 minutes or so. If I could have gotten the window open, I would have thrown in out- and maybe her too.

We headed home this afternoon, stopping in Urbana at Mandy and Edwards. They made me a tasty and good cake just like I like, with horse plates and some pig plates that said "Oink oink" on them, which is probably funnier to me that it should be. Mandy gave me presents, and then Liza showed up so we went to eat at a really neat sports bar that I had never been to called Jupiters. They had great pizza. Barry will like it there for sure.

On the way home from there, I tried to finish a book and took a nap while mom listed to the Illini women play Purdue for the Big Ten championship. When it got staticy, she got busy looking for a new station and made a judgment call that will cost her --she got pulled over by the cops for not acting right. I thought it was hysterical but mostly because it was her money and not mine, and because mom cannot learn not to argue with cops---she just cannot do it. Every time she gets pulled over and I am with her, I am shocked they do not pull out a gun and shoot her for mouthing off. Thank goodness I did not get that gene from her! (okay quit laughing)

A little known fact about me: I have/had a small blackjack problem in my day. I play blackjack like I eat and drink and spend money--without a WHOA. I am about as good at it as well, so I do NOT play anymore. EVER. I have been to two vacations lately that feature casinos and I did not even sit down once. It is probably the only bad habit I have ever taken up and then quit. It scares me though, so I just avoid being tempted. I did good this time too, but I did piss off $20 in slots which I do not even think are fun, but I wanted to be a team player. Since it is not fun, it does not tempt me like blackjack does.

The weekend was made because you were there. You are just to funny. And I would have laughed too, if it would have been My Mom getting the ticket. Unfortunately, she is really good at talking her way out of them, therefore she is above the law!

Can't thank you enough for taking the time to come to the party. You are a sweet heart, Cuz!

Oh look, you found my blog! The pics turned out good huh?

Mom is so obnoxious, I do not know why she is shocked she gets these tickets, she talks to cops like she does waitresses

Loved the post. When I grow up, I want to have an interesting enough life to be able to host a blog. I guess first I would probably have to figure out how to use a digital camera! The weekend was lots of fun. The old broads can still carry on, can't they? It was great to spend some time with you. I'll look you up next time I am in Mt Vernon...work takes me there a few times a year.

Yeah, we both come by our mouths honestly. But even we know when to shut it. Not surprising at all.

YOur pics turned out really good.

You are a great blackjack player! And you know you love it! It is not a bad habit! Wanna go to the casino for your birthday? It will be just like old times but better :-)

Your new camera is fantastic.
Did you have to publicize my misdeeds?
It was still a great weekend.
Love you too much,
Mom

YES, I most certainly did mom--if you do it anything around me, it is fair game for going on the blog.

Plus it was funny how mad you got and how you acted like a third grader blaming everyone but you.

PLUS, Mandy is right--people need to know that we did not spring forth out of the clouds with these mouths, we came by them honestly. Actually, that is a good reminder for you too.

and NO JULIE- DO YOU NOT LISTEN!~ I do not want to go to the casino for my bday, you hateful woman. I like my money where it is. Unless you are financing it, I aint going--and even then, I probably should not
