My theory of foaling being contagious has been borne out once again.
Within 24 hours of Xans foaling, Mel followed up with a beast of a red colt. Because the camera was out for some reason, I spent the nite at the farm in the horse trailer so I could keep an eye on Gyro, who seemed to be the closest to foaling. I had long since given up on Mel.
At the 2 am and 4 am checks, nothing. Then it started storming really hard and that always makes me sleep good in the trailer---one time I did not wake up til noon and had to take a half day off of work as a result of sleeping through it.
Anyway, at 8:30 I woke up and there he was---a big strapping feller, strong as he could be, had already nursed and was raising hell in Mel's stall. I am not sure what went on in there, but the dead water trough I use for hay in that stall was upside down and the afterbirth was shot almost out the stall door.
He is a healthy strong bugger, with a little white C on his head and at least one white leg.
I have not taken pics yet as it was still storming and the light is not good enough in the stalls to take really good pics. I will have some tonight.
