Word of that first outside Slybaby of the year must have spread to the barn and set off some sort of chain reaction.
Xanadu slipped in a dun filly yesterday morning around 8:30. Since she gave no signs of doing it, she was not in the camera stall. When I fed breakfast, I noticed she had a little dot of milk. It never occurred to me that she had already foaled until I came back with her hay, and I saw that there was a little squirt lying in the back corner. Not so very observant, I guess! She is precious and I think we will call her Phoenix.
Xan is a wonderful mother. She loves her babies and is protective but never gives us any trouble about tending to the baby when we need to. And she is 4 for 4 on dun babies! This one, just like the last two, may well be homozygous dun.
It is fascinating to me how full siblings can be so different. Hawkeye is a chunky monkey with lots of white on his face. Xena has NO white anywhere and looks like an athlete. This one has just a little white.
Their personalities are not the same either. Hawkeye has always been the sweet baby, interested in people and loves attention. Xena is more standoffish, and needs discipline. I wonder what this one will be?
