I like this baby. She has no name either, I just call her the roany pony. Odd since the speckled one is more roany, but whatever. Anyway, she is doing some funky stuff. Look at her armpits
This shows it a little better--she is being helpful by showing us her pit
Well you cannot miss that the base of her ears are flat out nekkid. Just nekkid
And the hiney is nekkid. That is not foal scours nekkid (although God knows that would have been justified, as this was the one with the eternal scours).
You can really see it here. See that huge patch at the top of her thigh? And one on her side? and again under the armpits--and the inside of that right hock.
What the hell is this about? It reminds me of when Nita's hair all fell out. And then grew back--it looked like freckles at first.
Now I know babies shed weird. This is a whole other level of funk though. Something is a little out of whack with short stuff here.
Any thoughts on this?
I sure hope the name I put on these pics when I saved them to my computer does not stick--I called them "mangy ears. mangy butt, mangy legs" etc. She sure does not need to be called Mangy all her life

This is the roan filly right?? Looks to me like she's just shedding out to the natural roan color. She'll be gorgeous when done! Love the pics, she looks really athletic!!
um, no help but a few of the horses at our barn lost all their hair in patches like this earlier this year too. It eventually grew back.
cute baby!
For some reason, Mangy doesn't fit her, LOL! :) The Roany Pony is cute, though! I have no idea about the shedding spots...hopefully it's nothing and it will grow back soon!
Horse Student: Hm!!!
No idea what this nekkid business is.
I have to wait for my next lesson.

Well I can tell ya, we just had a bull calf lose his hiney hair. We guess it's from the scours. Pour thing looks so funny, bright pink hairless hiney. We named him monkey butt. I know that didn't help you much though!
Why not? You've called me Mange my whole life. Glad it was more concerning to you when you called your horse that than when you called me that. It's only stuck for 22 years.
aa
One "Mange" in the family is enough.
Mom
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO YOU AND EVERYONE.
POP! ZAP! BAM BAM!

OK so I enlarged the pictures as best as I could (and your tags did stick LOL).. My initial reaction was that this is her shedding out, but I think your right this isn't "normal" slicking out shedding...However I did have a gelding last yr (older though) but when he slicked out he looked like he had some sort of mange or fungus but I took him to the vet and he said that's just how he shed out that year... And he was right because eventually it all did fall out (like spots at a time)..Now thinking on the roaning factor I'm not so sure that she would be shedding out like that...With the roans I've seen they tend to just sporadically get their white hairs interspersed into their coat..
I'd be just a tad concerned being that she is the filly that had the scours with no "real" explanation.. It could be possible that this is something being caused from within her body..
Oh hush Mandy
City girl--I studied her hard today, when she came in to be dewormed. She has lots of white hairs in there and in her nekkid spots, she now has very fine white hair.
So I feel a little better about it--but will keep an eye on it. The vet sees her all the time, and has no concerns so far----
he will b here in a week again to preg check D, so I will have him check her out good then. Who knows what she will look like by then
Oh I'm glad there is hair growing in there!! She will be one roaned out baby that's for sure!! Yes let us know how she does!!
We have the "funk" at our house too right now. Mostly on everyone's face, but Fred has it on his hiney too.
