Will spring ever get here to stay?

Just yesterday, I took these pics--regular sunny day pics. It was kind of fun, but I am not very good at taking pics of flowers.

I tried though and I am glad I did, as since then, the weather has gone berserk. When we got up this morning, it was gross out--just overcast and ugly, then a huge storm came on. We had little hail, wind, all nasty weather things. It was almost 60 degrees--and now it is going to snow, for Pete's sake.

Why does this just happen on the weekends, when we need things done? We were supposed to take Voodoo to the trainer today, but no way were we going to teach him to load in the trailer in a storm like that. Even I would not want to get in the steel trailer with hail pinging off of it.

Dr M comes tomorrow, to lavage Aries, check the baby' IgG levels and give him a plasma transfusion if he needs it, ultrasound Haida Girl to see where she is in her cycle to get her ready to be bred to Sophisticated Catt and do some Coggins to get us in order for some trail riding. Also, Cash is off, she appears to have an abcess on her front right, so since Doc is coming, I will have him deal with that and we will start treating her. Basically what that means is that we have a full house in the front barn. It also means that I have to go to work really early so that I can take my lunch to see the doc at 10 am....so not the way I like to start the week, because I am not good at getting up early.

Meanwhile, Tequila is on a hunger strike. She seemed to ease into it as the week ended, and by Saturday morning, was full on into it. This is not a dog that can afford to lose weight. Her back end is in one of its weak stages again, so she needs pain meds for that--and to take them, she also needs food in her. It is a vicious cycle.

I got her some food at the grocery to convince her to eat. I know that is the wrong thing to do--I should not spoil her. Then again, if she is not eating because she has decided she is old and done living, it hardly matters if she is spoiled. I got her hot dogs, and some ground turkey to cook for her and some ground beef. When I got home, I gave her a hot dog to see what would happen. She took it but threw it in the dirt. Until the pig came for it, then she gobbled it up! I was so relieved. She ate the entire package.

This morning, since it was storming too hard to do anything else, we went to WalMart and got her lots more people food. When we got home, she ate another package of hot dogs, and then probably a half pound of beef, but left that much again and went to bed. She is still there. That is an awful lot of food, so I guess that is okay. I am just glad she is showing some interest. My plan is to feed her hot dogs in the morning, since it is fast, and cook the turkey for her in the evening, or give her the raw beef. I might try some rice as well. Barry suggested that perhaps the dog food hurts her teeth, but she just had them done and that should not be the case.

And now of course, we are out of pain meds, so I need to schedule some time in with Tequila's vet. The sooner the better. We knew this was coming, but had put off making the plan as she seems to be doing so well. It is time for that. I have in the back of my head that she may just be shutting down, but I honestly do not think that she is at the stage that it is imminent. I am fighting being too proactive for her--I am highly aware of having asked too much of Argo, and I do not want to do that to another dog. On the other hand, I do not want to jump the gun on her either, in an effort to make sure I do not drag it out.

It is all too hard.

Anyway that is on the agenda for tomorrow. Have the equine vet here, consult with dog vet, finish the two briefs that I have 90% of the way there, have a staff meeting at 1:30 and then tomorrow nite is the NCAA championship game.

I also have to get my paperwork in to the stallion owners for Aries and HG. At least I think I know where it all is, since today I went through pounds of paperwork in the mail area (read: black hole) of my kitchen. I found stuff I have kept for a year, that I never needed in the first place. It all happened because I had to take up a fight with Bank of America credit card. Not much can piss me off more than an incompetent person or entity that has power over my life. The sent me a letter claiming that I had not paid my March payment, and I not only had paid it, I had made two of them. It took well over an hour to line that out with them, and to get them to correct it on their end, which ultimately they did. By that time though, I had blood pressure issues.

On top of all that, I have done about 6 loads of laundry, and God knows, I hate doing laundry. Well not doing it, but putting it up. That is Barry's job, and it is always a fight to get him to do it when I want it done, rather than walking all the way to the laundry room to get socks or underwear. It is a constant battle. He did put up two baskets today though, but of course, now they are full again. I hate the whole laundry thing.

Speaking of which, it is buzzing again. But this is the last load I am doing today, as Barry's whites are in the washer and I do NOT do the whites once they get out of the dryer. I do not fold them, I do not match socks, I do not deal with underwear, I do not do it.

This may be our Waterloo. If that means what I think it means. If not, I am a huge tool

"I know that is the wrong thing to do"

it is not the wrong thing to do.

you do what you must to get her to eat. If she is shutting down, she will not eat no matter what you put in front of her anyway. If it is pain management then you must eat with the pain meds so *you do what you must* to get her to eat to feed her the meds.

She is not a well dog and she is not a young dog and you do not really know her history before she came to you so *you do what you need to do*.

Tori is a princess. But she is a 12 year old princess and if you make to 12 at my house, that means you get to be treated like a princess and if that means boiled up hamburger or turkey burger mixed with kibble (and softened with more broth if you think she needs a mash/mush) then damnit....that is what happens at my house.

the younger dogs here do not get treated like that, but the two old dogs ..... absolutely, they do get treated specially.

"Our Doggie Friends"- - - - - Enjoy

BEWARE of business these days---and especially Credit Card Companies.

THEY ARE LOOKING----WATCHING-----BETTER THAN SANTA CLAUS CHECKING HIS LIST.

Had a situation with my statement from a GM Mastercard. Was charged $40.00 for a late payment. THEIR problem was that my check had already cleared the bank ( automatic thingee) and THEIR posting was two days after and THEY WERE CHARGING ME LATE FEE.

Ah! So sorry! Our mistake! off it came but why don't we get an AGGRAVATION FEE return.

GGRRR!!!!!!
Carol---still mad to say enjoy

Whew! I'm exhausted just reading this! Breathe in, breath out. Go watch at your new colt. Then back to the laundry:)

My boyfriend has a sheltie that's on medication for treating lymphoma, and it's really messed with her appetite. She was on Prednisone, which really upped her appetite, but then they took her off of it because they had to change medications. Anyway, her vet recommended getting pureed chicken baby food, because Katie wouldn't eat, and she just loves the stuff.

If the hotdogs stop working, you could try meat baby food.

I'm with Holly. When dogs reach a certain age at my house, they can have whatever they want to eat. Meat babyfood is always popular, but you'd have to give a dane an awaful lot of those little jars! But maybe mixing it with something else would do. Canned cheese makes pills and things go down easier. And my beloved old Widget dog lived a couple of weeks on shaved deli turkey. Only thing she'd eat, so she got it.

And you'll know when it's time. You'll hate it, but you'll know.
