And I am getting ready to not be kidding about this. Tango and I are over due for a come to Jesus.
Friday nite, when I was changing her wrap on her leg, she managed to simultaneously step on my foot hard enough to make my eyes water, and also knee me in the forehead. That really pissed me off. I can live with it though, I knew she was going a little stir crazy being stalled because of her injuries and her need to take antibiotics several times a day. She was going a little berserk in the stall, hopping up and down, trying to climb over the gate--generally embarrassing me in front of my company, so I turned her out for a few hours. You would think that would have made her happy.
Evidently not. When I got up way early Saturday morning to go on my girl trip, I walked past her stall and saw that she had blood running down her OTHER leg. I am sure my reaction was not good. I think I called her a hooker. Really loud. At 7 am.
So Barry and I got her out and hosed it off to see what her deal was. She sliced it all right, not deeply, but enough to get some blood flowing. As usual, it did not seem to bother her. It cleaned up all right, and did not seem to need anything else, so we turned her out in the bull shed area to work off some more steam. I am betting that she cut that leg hopping up and down in her stall, and getting caught on the gate.
My thought was that if it became an emergency while I was gone, Barry could deal with her. If not, I would tend to her when I got home. I may have mentioned something to her about getting tough or getting out. Probably there were some creative cuss words in there as well.
I went off on my trip and when we got back Sunday afternoon, Barry mentioned that somehow she had knocked some hide off of her face. She had done that out in the bull shed area. She was not hurt, just had a bald spot. Who knows what she had done to it--probably itchy from shedding and scraped it trying to scratch it
You have to picture how ridiculous she looks. She is so hairy she looks like a yak. She has one leg wrapped, the other one with a big long scab on it, and a bald spot on her face like she has the mange.
I noticed last nite and then again this morning, that she was shedding in chunks. She had some tufts of hair on her back sticking up and I made a mental note to make time tonight to groom her really well and help her get some of that loose hair off of her.
I should have known she would take matters in her own hands. By the time I got home around 7 pm tonight, she had somehow managed to pull those tufts out. Completely out. She has a palm-sized naked area on the side of her withers--I cannot imagine how she got to that to pull it out. There are a few other smaller bald spots as well. She had to have done it to herself though since she has been stalled all day.
The skin underneath is perfectly fine, soft and moist like it should be. She is just bald. She obviously chewed it right out, just like Tequila did when she got a flea reaction a few months ago.
She looks like a freaking leper.
I cant wait to see what is wrong with her tomorrow.
Meanwhile, this is what the original ouch looks like. I do not like that thickness in the middle, but I assume the wrap got bound up a bit and let it form. We will get that mashed down. The hair around the edges looks all crazy. I was a little shocked when I took the wrap off tonight and thought the wound looked bigger--a little longer and further down her leg. Then I realized that this is just where the outer edges were initially damaged and died off and they have finally gone away. Surely it will start smelling better soon--it had better, or my gag reflex is finally going to do me in. Even she sticks her nose in the wraps after I get them off-- I wonder if she makes herself sick?

LOL the joys of horse ownership! I would trade you that wrapped bald lady for two ***hole draft horses any day though!
That little fart-knocker!!
Good Grief!
That horse doesn't know it takes TWO TO TANGO so she should
BEHAVE!
Try to enjoy these days Carol
I think in human terms, she is definitely a 'problem child'.
I hate to say it but I am so glad someone else has a holy terror like me! Makes me feel better.
:-)
Holy moly that was a disturbing photo!! My screen cannot scroll fast enough.
I hope that her sores heal up soon, poor thing.
