Tuesdays Tribute

This is a weird one ---this week's tribute is something sort of frivolous for me.

It is to Bare Minerals makeup, which you can buy here http://www.bareminerals.com, as well in the real boutiques, Sephora and I think some department stores. I always thought it was a neat idea, but I was sure it would not work for me, because it would not offer very much coverage. In order to get decent coverage, I have to slather regular foundation on, and then it drives me crazy. I usually wear Estee Lauder or Lancome. The thick ickiness leads me to almost never wear makeup at all, unless I am going to court or something dress up. I spend all the time counting the minutes until I can scrub that mess off. The rest of the time I feel like a messy ugly frump.

Jenna started using it and kept trying to get me to come over so she could do me up. I finally did, but her skin is so much lighter than hers, it was way too light, but I was surprised at how well it did actually cover. Even odder than that, it did not feel like it got greasy within an hour and I could actually forget it was there. I am so glad she got me to try it.

I decided to buy the stuff and see what happened. First you buy the starter kit, which includes two shades of the foundation, and the brushes that go with it, as well as a powder called "mineral veil" that you put on last, and this stuff called "warmth" that is sort of a bronzer. The kit comes in about 7 shades--I got medium. I also bought the concealer which is called bisque--I did not know that it comes in a few colors, but it does. The lady at the boutique sold me the summer one, since she said that was best for medium complexions.

All that was only $100--way less than had I bought foundation and powder, etc at the Estee Lauder counter--and my brushes that I already have cost way more than that. Even I know that good brushes make a difference.

Off I went to Vegas, and lo and behold, Amy uses the same stuff! The bisque they sold me was too light, but she needed some, so she bought me the next color. That worked well--but required visiting Sephora, which I love even though I don't wear makeup. Strange isn't it?

She convinced me to try this weird cream eyeliner, which I will probably like once I get better at it--so far I have been making a mess of myself. I got some Smashbox of some of that and some other eye makeup, and damned if I did not actually wear it all weekend, like some kind of girly girl.

So that is my tribute--this stuff is great, works really well to cover blemishes surprisingly, and is inexpensive. Maybe this goes along with all this other work I am doing on myself, and before we all know it, I will be dolled up like regular people instead of walking around looking like I just got out of bed all the time,.

But probably not.

I am not a make-up wearer but have heard good things about Bare Minerals. Being a member of the older crowd, I thought it would just sink into my wrinkles and make them more pronounced than they are...yeah who am I kidding - they are there whether I want to admit it or not. So if anyone can tell me if us older broads can successfully wear BM speak up.

I am not a good makeup wearer either. However last summer Sarah convinced me to try mineral powder too and I love it. I put foundation on under my eyes and then the powder and it stays on!

I used Bare Minerals for a year and really liked it (still on my first pot of warmer or bronzer.) But I switched to a Maybelline mineral powder because it was nearly half the price. I'm not sure I like it quite as much though. I might switch back to BM.
I'd love to try some of their eyeshadows, etc.!

Wrinkles Sminkles!

The Grand Canyon and I are two of a pair. Only thing about it---is that each morning I have a "tour" of the cracks and crevices whether I like it or not. sigh! ! !

Wrinkles is as Wrinkles----can they go away with BM?

Enjoy Ice to Heat and now Wind Carol

I love Bare Minerals! The other brands always made my complexion worse and never lasted. I don't care for the mineral veil, but everything else is great.

I even like their eyeshadow. Other brands make my eyes itch and water, not Bare Minerals.

the true test for any type of makeup for me is how well it will hold up during the summer, as in it will melt right off regardless if your inside or out. ( i hate that!!) I too wear Estee Lauder currently using the double ware lite, it stays put during the heat of summer ,as long as i don't keep touching my face.

Maybe i need to try that BM stuff!!

i have been so intrigued by that stuff but have been too scared to try it. i have awfully dark circles under my eyes, i wonder if i would need to use a regular concealer first?

great idea for a tribute!

Hmmm... I have dry skin, so would it be fitting for me?? It looks so easy, though. Are there places to try BM?

And here's my own happy find: Smooth Away hair remover. (Those sand paper like things). It totally works like magic!! I used to nair or wax my eyebrows and lip but no more! These remove the hair, leave your skin exfoliated, smooth, and no breaking out or burning like waxing or creams. Totally amazing!!
