Meanwhile, back at the farm

Ammo had a bandage change tonight, and things are looking good. The pressure from the bandage has the swelling under control so we can see what we are really dealing with. Please ignore the dried goop below the ouch. A decent sized hole has opened up, but thank Goodness it is below the joint, and while the bandage was pretty funky smelling, the wound looks clean, and I think the SMZs are working just fine even though I am using them once a day instead of twice a day like you are supposed to do.

Since we are going to be gone this weekend, I cleaned it up a little, put the meds on and wrapped her back up to stew til Sunday or so.

The nicest news is that she stood really nicely for her bandage change. No hell raising like you normally get on a baby until you are several changes into it. I could not likely have tied her (since she does not know how yet) and done it myself, but Barry held her with the tail crank through removal of the bandage, cleaning it up, finding the meds, putting them on, deciding to wrap it after all and Madison going to find the quilts, then going back again to find a new polo wrap and me wrapping it up, without putting up a fight. Sure the tail crank helps a lot, but usually on a baby that big, it has its limits and sure does not last long enough to get through all of that, so I have to think she is learning exceptionally well.

While I hate it when one gets hurt, there are some bonuses to it that are good for both of us. We are forced to get around to the things we have not done yet, like daily handling, teaching them to stand quietly like for the farrier, take medicine, and generally submit like a big kid. Yeah we ought to do it earlier, but we have found that in the end it does not matter to the outcome when we do it, and at least we are not fighting the heat to do it this way. It only takes a day or two no matter when we do it, so this is as good a way as any
