Hold me to this

I must make a list.

Today, here is what I have to do before I am allowed to sit on my fat ass watching TV tonight. I MUST mow the weeds in the front pasture so I can take pics of babies in there and see their legs. DONE I still need some registration shots to finish those up (these do not have to all get done today, but really Gizmo should) This requires BS to drive the little tractor to the farm so I can do so. This is priority number one. I already asked him to bring it.

I also must move some horses around. Or see if it is true that Grandpa will refuse to share his high dollar dinner with the babies he is running with. That would be the best case scenario as he loves them so. That decision has to be made. DECISION MADE, STAY TUNED

I have to pull Gypsy's hair for her DNA test. Might as well do today. DONE , left it in Gator

I have to start 5 month PK1 shots. Which means I have to wrap my pea brain around who is ready for them. Which I think I can do pretty easily once I stop whining about it and actually do it. FIGURED IT OUT, GOT 3 of 7 that ARE READY DONE

I SHOULD saddle Boogie and see how his brain is. DONE- HE IS FANTASTIC I wonder what saddles and other accoutrements are at the farm? Both trailers are at the house, so I bet most saddles are in there. That is on the possible list. He has definitely calmed down a lot.

Determine where Mojo is going to start trailer school. We are going old school with him--he will eat and drink in the horse trailer this week. ...at his determination if and when he should do these things. So we have to decide where to put it, then put up a pen to attach to it and let him work it out for himself. That should happen tonight or tomorrow. He is at least coming back in for more school tonight. DONE- AND DOING WELL AFTER WEEKEND BREAK

Doctor Ammo, who is going along with the weaning program better than ever. DONE Perhaps do her registration pics, as well as Tango's. They need leading school as well. DONE

Confirm next farrier appointment--call has been made, appointment requested.

Since it gets dark so early, that is probably more than I can get done in the 90 minutes I get after work before it is dark. I really want to take some pictures. DID THAT TOO

When I get home, I have to pick up the crap in the kitchen. Fold comforters and blankets and get them the hell out of the laundry room lest I hyperventilate next time I go in there--the clutter is out of control. I have to find the box for my Powershot, and my warranty and get it ready to send it for cleaning etc.

Do my stallion report for AQHA. That will help me get myself in order on other shots.

Catch up on my blogs--I hate missing days, but it is fun to have lots to read at once.

Tomorrow--the stuff I did not get done today, as well as start baby vaccines. STARTED- DID TWO AND FOUND THAT I HAVE ENOUGH TO GET THROUGH FIRST ROUND This will require the help of BS however, who has a tentative date to go on a road ride with Brant, et al after work. Yes, this is the same BS who may have a broken ankle. I shall take this as a sign that he does not in fact have a broken ankle.

Definitely take more pics, as rain is called for later in the week.

Wednesday I am supposed to go to dinner with Hutch as his birthday is Friday--and it is a big one. We are having a nice steak dinner at Stonewolf, I think, just the four of us. We have our first show this weekend, so I have some bookwork to do to get ready--some new forms to design, etc. That of course is not as easy as it sounds, as the forms from before are on the old computer......I will have to figure all that out. Earlier in the week, the better.

And now I just got a phone call saying the new trainer now has a spot for us, but he wants one that is already started. Shit. I wanted to send him Voodoo, that is who I need started. Maybe I will send Boogie. I would have sent Target, but this guy does not have cows currently, so there is no point in that. I do not know why I am struggling with this. I am the customer here, if I do not have something that he wants, that ought to be the end of it--not that I should bend over backwards to send something he wants, just to make him happy. I am the one writing the check. If I need one started, I should find someone to take him that WANTS to start one. I make this too hard.

That is a lot to work out here. Maybe I should move Boogie up on the hit parade to see if he is ready to start his training again, and mess with him tonight to confirm that. Then I could run him up to the new guy later this week. DETERMINATION: He is ready

Yep, better do that

Wow! Your life is so different from mine. I'd love to spend a day with horses! I'm stuck with politicians in D.C. Blech!

Oh sister, if you only knew! I do the horse stuff at nite and weekends--during the day, it is not at all strange for me to deal with politicians as well!

Not so much difference between us after all---two kinds of horseshit!

Thanks for reminding me to order the DNA kit for Rose.

Good idea for Mojo training, I did that with the colts and they learned to load so easy, they like food too much to stay outside of the trailer long...

Already did my stallion report and have the breeders certificates.

I also need to set up the farrier to come back out.

Could/would the new trainer ride Sly?

You are always so far ahead of me Missy, it is embarrassing. Especially considering that you are limited to seeing yours on the weekends.

Barry is the master trailer loading teacher, but Mojo is different, as you know. And BS is not currently able bodied enough to withstand a shit storm, and we are on a limited schedule.

We had to do this with a customer's mare who did not load ( or tie, or lead, for that matter--) and it worked beautifully

Good question about the new trainer, I will have to see. I would not send Sly first, until I get to know this guy better, but it is worth considering. I am just a little thrown at having the schedule of who is at the trainer's at what time being decided by anyone but me

Why does he want one that is ALREADY trained? That doesn't make sense to me...does he not want to be a 2 year old colt starter? Don't give him one that is real sensitive and he can ruin for the first one until you see how he is.

Paige said...

Not spefically a colt starter--and evidently does not want to do that anymore. Just a cutter

Which might mean I don't need him after all

Lazy A Ranch said...

So he wants to train cutters but not break them out? Have you seen any horses he has trained or shown? I guess if you want to train one you could try him out and see if they do well or not. But which one would you pick? Do you have fillies that you like that are old enough and already broke? Maybe do like Desiree and train one of Sly's babies and show it to prove him.

Paige said...

You misunderstand--this is not a new guy--just new to me. He has been showing cutters for more than 40 years, pretty successfully. He is very good, I know a lot of people who have used him. He says at his age, he does not want to start any more, just finish them. He had/has a guy that started for him, but he just went away.

I only have one two year old. The yearlings are not ready. He wants one now, before it gets too cold. BUT, he does not want to start a two year old, he wants to finish one that is already going. That is not where I want to put my money right now....jsut more hours. Target needs to be on cows, but he is not keeping cows right now. We are going to do that ourselves this fall and winter--not to make him a cutter, but to sort on him to sell him

Therein lies the dilemma. Boogie clearly needs more training, but I do not know that this trainer is willing to take on the challenge of him right now.

Holy Hell! I'm out of breath and worn smooth out just reading the list.

My goodness you have tons to get done.

I've got to order 3 DNA kits for next year's foals.

I turned in my stud reports this morning. I'm sure they'll be reminding me to DNA one of the studs.

I'm still working on feet this week myself. Seems like it's a job never finished.

Just curious who the trainer is? Is he from around here? I have a 5 year old that is green and would like to have a handle on him.
