I am such a card, I crack myself up. I think it is the heat.
Today has been semi-eventful---got the laundry started--three loads down, 937 to go; went to the elevator for feed and a conference that led to us changing our feed plan; ran errands, successfully caught the tractor fixing man (a miracle in and of itself) etc, and decided to go to Indiana to a farm auction for stage one of the feed change. We missed it altogether, which is the Strawn way, but no big deal since we had to pick up the hitchhiking pup on the way home anyway. Her name is Dot, she is 13 weeks old. It was a nice trip anyway, got to see some of Barry's old stomping grounds, BP (before Paige).
Meanwhile, the temporary Dane is getting to us. She is so sweet, and although she was terrified of Barry last nite, she is giving in, and slinking up to him when he asks really nice. She loves me, so Tranae was right about the man thing, I think. However, her concerns about her not liking male dogs is not carrying through with Thor-
-they seem to be buddies, and she has moved right in to his room in the Dane palace. She also likes to lie under Barry's work truck where part of the chassis catches her on the back and she is wedged in--
very sad, so you have to convince her how to get out with out hurting herself. She will figure it out.
I also do not think her eye bothers her a bit, and she could care less about the pig. Even more freaky is that Barry could not find her this morning when he was moving hte lawn mower, so he was not concerned when Slater and Simba came out to the side yard to help him. Then he saw her. And they saw her. And he saw them see her. And NOTHING HAPPENED. They all went o
n about their business. I cannot believe that and would loved to have seen it with my own eyes. Simba is notoriously protective of her property, and she is so timid, I was afraid a greeting from Slater would give her heart palpitations, but nothing happened.
She has been cleaned up, given a flea and tick treatment and will go to the vet this week. She needs to be fixed, have a complete checkup and get her shots, and find out how old she is. My guess is, not very.
Now what she needs more than anything is a name. I like Shasta (like Leigh's horse, but I cannot continue to name my horses after her horses, so this would be a good way to use it), but Barry did not like it. He thinks she needs a Puerto Rican name, do not ask me why, and then reminds me that it does not matter since we are not keeping her. Still, a name is the first step to a new life, where some thoughtless person does not dump her out in 100 degree temps. Any suggestions?

Wow, she's gorgeous.
My name submission is Esperanza. It suits her and it's Puerto Rican. I don't know what you'd shorten it to, though. Pera, maybe, or Ranza. Like, I only call my dog "Margaret" when she's in trouble. Okay, so not infrequently...
Then again, when I adopted Maggie, her name was Sweet Pea, and hey, she still turned out okay. So even if you call her "dog" "baby" or "sweetie girl", she'll probably still be okay. And huge kudos to you for taking her in and fixing her up. Seriously!
Why is it that you will not be keeping this sweetheart dog? And would you like to place bets on whether you actually do end up keeping her? Ash says that she should be named Tiger Lily, obvious reference to the brindle tiger stripes & not so obvious reference to the Indian princess in "Peter Pan".
I think Tiger Lily is a great name. If not, how about Ezmarelda?
Mom
Those are both great names. I bet Paige keeps her too.
All good names, I will put them in the hopper. I thought of Sheena, which I like, and Bree thought of Xena, which kind of goes with the gods and goddesses them or Thor--and our first was named Appollo until he turned into Stumpy.
It is so hard.
she has started coming int he hosue to eat because of the heat, and is so good, does not even look at the furniture.
And you know it is Barry that is putting the kibosh on keeping her
Well with you both you will be spoiled and have a great home. And beside Thor needs a playmate/companion. Is she okay with him?
She is okay with him---she is very timid which is good for hanging out with him, as he is not scared of her. Tranae said she did not like male dogs, and I would not either with him sticking his nose in her business all the time, but getting her fixed will help that. She is very tolerant of Thor, and they do run and play together--no rough housing, which is good since she is pretty thin and has some ouchies still. Thor really likes her a lot and does not seem jealous of her at all--one if his big issues. He is super possessive of me, the dork.
I hate it that he has not had a playmate and this is so nice for them. I will try to take pics of them playing this afternoon
People just suck. I can't imagine just dumping an animal, but people do it all the time. I was on the way to a friends, and came upon a tiny puppy running down the middle of the blacktop road. Her poor little feet were burning up, and you could count her ribs. She had a collar on... just disgusting. At least she wasn't bumper bait.
