Look at that big ol honking abcess on poor Hawkeye! I had to lance it to get things rolling, but once I did, it took off like a streak.
His days of being pain free are over, that is for sure. He took the lancing very well but was sick of me poking and prodding on him after a while. He got two sessions of it, and will have another in the morning.
I get a disturbingly peculiar satisfaction of getting goo out of abcesses. I cannot wait to have this goo cultured to see what in sam hill we have here, but things are looking up!

He looks so much better. I love that goo too. Kind of like popping an enormous zit! So Gross!
It looks SOOOO much better and I hope he heals up fast. Did the vet say to put him on SMZ for a few? I just worry about reintoducing bacteria into his body through the open holes. And since it is on the bottom of his belly and he probably lays down.
I am concerned about that as well, but since pigeon fever is still a possibility (not one the vet is buying into so far- he says puncture wound), I am holding off.
He feels SO much better, even if it is a little tender
