It occurs to me that I have not put a picture of the King on here. This is Slater Alligator, aka Fat Boy, our youngest Dane. He is 5 this year.
He thinks he is the boss of the house, and no one tells him otherwise, but it really is not true. He only has a couple of hobbies--eating being the first one, sleeping being the second, but his favorite thing to do is go on road trips. I think he likes it because he gets to eat and sleep a lot on those trips. He particularly likes hotels with elevators, because he likes to push the buttons and then sit in the corner and wait for people to get on so he can laugh at them. They are always terrified when they realize he is not just a short person, and it really is funny to watch.
He also likes hotel pools, even if the hotels do not like him so much for it--he has been known to take a flying leap into them to be with me while I am swimming. And of course, he really likes the pizza delivery guys and is so used to my habit of ordering pizza in hotels that he sits at the front door of the room from the time we arrive until the pizza comes--he is so sure it is coming.
He is definitely an old man in a dog body! I think it would insult him to tell him that though, so I will keep it to myself!

Oh my! to have a 4-legged "King of the House". He is sooo handsome and sure enjoy your description of HIS travels.
We once had a "Queen". Only one we ever had since we seem to be partial to "boys" but she was funny. Victoria was her name and she would "talk" to you wanting sympathy if you asked her if she was hungry or lonesome or ? ? ? She was also very protective. She was a short haired pointer and we had her for many years.
Aren't animal stories fun?
Carol
Yes they are---and most animals are better than people, I think.
We have a queen too--she sounds a lot like yours. Ours is Simba, and she is a fawn Dane that we rescued. She is a riot. She scares the hell out of people, but with good reason. She was taken from a place where all the people were arrested for running a crack house, and she was part of the protection. She is much better now after all these years, but still has rules about what can go on at her house. She means it, so we try to accomodate her.
She is very much a Daddy's girl, and falls asleep every nite with her head on the pillow looking at Barry. When he has been gone a while, she wants to sit in his lap in the recliner, which makes it hard to see the TV, as she is about 33 inches at the withers and about 130 pounds (the littlest dog in the house, but she does not know that).
I will post a pic of her soon, so you can see that pretty face
