A full house and a trouble maker

Have you ever noticed how things don't go according to plan for me? It is always something messing up my schedule

I have a full house of mares right now, all grazing nice and pretty on the spoiling field. However, yesterday the elevator came to spread fertilizer and more seed.....which requires the mares to get off their pasture for a while. This would not be a big deal at all normally, but of couse, we have only two of the other pastures in use right now (rotating to let one get a good spring jump) which limits who goes where when, if that makes any sense.

This necessitates the use of stalls for the mama/foal pairs. I don't like stalling babies, I think it is so much healthier for them to be out playing in the sun and interacting with each other. Plus, there is nothing that pees more than a nursing mare~ more cleaning stalls for me, when I would rather be playing with babies.

Anyway, so I have a full house of mares, and Grandpa is in right now because he thinks he sprained his ankle. Whether he really did is anyone's guess, but at his age if he wants to be a prima donna, I guess I can indulge that for a few days. I should have known better than to be nice to him!

Well he has pushed his luck...this morning I get there to feed breakfast and check for surprise babies, and the ol crank is standing in the feed area, having opened all three of the feed freezers, evidently in his quest for Equine Senior. He knows where it normally lives and loves to get into the freezer to get it and feed himself. (note: good thing about Senior feed----you can actually free-feed it with no worries) It is a stupid game he plays but it makes him happy, so whatever. I guess he was pissed that it was not there where it should have been (I moved it without discussing it with him), so he tore up what was out. There is feed everywhere, and he is grinning like an insane monkey--he is probably stoned from too much feed

We played our regular game of pretending he is going in his stall --not his regular stall of course since there is a mama and baby in there- and going in circles around the barn, then hiding from me. Guess I know what he thinks about being booted to lesser accomodations for a baby, huh?

He may be 27 but sometimes he acts like he is 2.

He better not get sick, is all I have to say for him.
