In other sad news

This family is the friend of a friend (an internet friend, but friend all the same). It is so heartbreaking, especially when you know the added details, that these children are adopted---I had never considered the concept that the Amish adopted children, but evidently they do. To go through all that and have this happen is devastating

HOMER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Sheriff's Deputies out of Calhoun County say two children are in critical condition after a car hit their Amish buggy.

The accident happened on P Drive South near 28 1/2 Mile Rd. around 3:50 pm on Monday, Oct. 13.

The buggy contained a mother, 33, and two children ages nine and three. Both of the children were airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI, with critical injuries. The mother sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24 year old Moscow, MI, man was arrested for Operating a Vehicle on a Suspended License and Operating Under the Influence of Heroin.

A 22 year old woman was also in the car. She was arrested on outstanding warrants. A 1 year old infant, also in the car, was turned over to a family member.

this just made me hold my breath. We have had a few buggy/vehicle accidents and I have been amazed that there have been no human fatalities in them in the 17 years I have been on the job.

My heart also breaks for the people involved, especially since it might have been prevented.

That is very sad. I, too, will say a prayer for everyone involved. You are probably super sensitive as a result of your sister's adoption ordeal. I know I am. Nobody should have to go through anything this horrible, and having drugs involved makes it worse.
Love you too much,
Mom
