Don't write a check....

Your ass cannot cash--like Alain Bernard of France just did. The big Olympics story of the day is Bernard running his mouth--he said earlier this week, "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for." He was talking about the 4 x 100 freestyle relay.

He should not have done that.

Watching the US relay team out-touch the French big mouth by .08 seconds was one of the best things I have seen all year---maybe even longer. There is nothing more thrilling to me than honest competition, especially with drama added...Barry even stayed up to watch it and may have hollered more than I did. We both came far out of our chairs and woke up all the animals, I know that much. This is the kind of thing I live for.

Of course, the World Record was smashed- by about 4 seconds I think

Another great aspect of it was that the anchor man of the US team, Jason Lezak, is a self-coached swimmer whose split was 46.o---not only the fastest relay leg in history, but a full 1.5 seconds faster than the individual 100 free record--which is held by the big mouth himself, Alain Bernard. I guess he better watch himself. Actually, four of the relay teams broke the record, that is how fast this race was.

The interview afterwards was so fun to watch, each of them giving the others the credit, and my man Michael Phelps deflecting questions about his gold medal hunt in favor of talking about the relay team--what a class act. "I've been on the last two relays, where we came up short, and to be honest with you, I was tired of losing," Lezak said of bronze and silver relay medals for the U.S. team in the past two Olympics.

Man isn't this fun? I LOVE the Olympics.

I cannot wait til tomorrow!

We also watched that race. Wow is all I can say. Hubby was so happy when we beat the Frenchies. He was jumping up and down hollering during the last leg...you would have thought it was a Bear's vs Packers game. That entire relay team showed immense class.
