And I thought the holiday injury had already occurred

But I was wrong. We left the dogs home yesterday while we went to the Strawn Xmas.--Simba and Slater in the back yard and Tequila and Thor in the front. They should have been fine considering they have the Paws Majal that Barry built them and it is nicer than a lot of people's houses. Something went wrong though, and Simba and Slater ended up in the front yard...as we pulled in the driveway, I saw blood all over the siding on the front porch. Even at my house, that is NOT GOOD.

We could not find Tequila anywhere, and we scoured the yard for her. Knowing she is not stupid enough to stay in a hostile environment, we finally thought that she might have gone to Sly's barn....and thank God, that is what she had done. She was all bedded down in some hay, still shivering, obviously weak and scared to death.

What a poor sweet baby she is. We loaded her up in the car, and when we got the house, I had to drag her out and as she hit the driveway, her hind end gave out on her. We got her in the house, bathed her VERY carefully (her first bath ever here), and doctored her wounds, which really are not that bad overall...and I cannot figure out what is making her not strong in the hind end. But she is really hurting.

Right now, she is doped up on pain meds, antibiotics are flowing and is sleeping like a rock. She is all covered up in blankets in the guest bedroom bed, breaking my heart. Have you ever seen anything so sad? I keep checking on her to see if she is okay, and she cannot be in that much pain at the moment, or there is no way she could sleep so well even if she is a champion sleeper.

This photo is of her on Friday nite, when she was relatively intact. I say "relatively" because you have to ignore that piece of her ear that is missing from her last run in with Simba (which she actually deserved, so I cannot be sure she did not provoke something this time either).

I find it fascinating that for the second time in three years, Simba and Slater may not get their Xmas presents because they have misbehaved. We spent an hour picking out special presents at Pet Smart today, and now I guess they just won't get them. Tequila got a new pretty white collar with pink crystals, but she will have to wait until her ouchies heal to wear it, I guess. After the scare we had, I was afraid there would not be anyone to put it on, so a wait is okay I guess.

Stupid damn dogs. They make me so mad, and I know this is a risk you run with animals, especially rescues whose backgrounds are unknown (and what we know of Simba's fully explains why she is so protective of her house), but it is still a horrible situation. Every nite Simba and Slater see Tequila on their way to potty as she sleeps on the couch, and never is a word said....now this. Damn them.

Poor baby. She should be feeling much better after Christmas, if she isn't I'm sure she'll be at the doctor telling him all her woes. Sure is scary when it happens though, isn't it?

She is doing good, she has pretty much forgotten about it already. I am having to get trickier with her antibiotics for sure!

I had to wrestle her into bed last nite which is a huge change from a few days ago!
