More flash

The coon tail has shown up again. This is Hemi's butt, and it is definitely there. Her mama does not have it, but her two year old brother Target is really roany and has this tail as well. I will have to ask about Squirrel, and whether she has these details now. Sly is roany in his flanks but I don't think he still has his coon tail---it did not last very long.

I do not know a lot about the gene that causes it--such as whether it can hide in a sire or dam and show up later, etc. It looks really cool on the red dun, and now I am getting psyched to see her shed off in the spring to see if she has the roan flanks to go with it. Target's did not explode until this year, but they were noticeable last year.

Look at me thinking about next year when this one is not even over yet!

Ashlyn wanted to know if that was Twister's butt & was disappointed that it is not! I swear the child is obsessed with that horse! She thinks he gets shorted on your blog :-)
Is the gray in the tail good? Stupid question maybe but not something we give two hoots about in walking horses...

What I've read about this gene is that if they have white hair in their flanks they can produce a coontail or more roaned flank colt. Neither parent has to have the coon tail, only the roan flank.

Nah, Julie, it is just an accessory, that I think is pretty. Probably because some of my favorite bloodlines carry it

Belinda it must be coming from Sly then, because he has roan flanks.

cool! I like it

Squirrel has the roany flanks, but not the coon tail.

My filly also has a "coon" tail. So there's a possibility it will go away in time? Or she could keep it forever, huh?
