The smell of money

We went to pick up a bit of hay today. All my plotting about round bales for the pasture horses and it snuck up on me that I was running low on quality hay for the stalled horses. Leave it to me to outsmart myself. I had ordered some of this, but it has not yet come...so we had to make an emergency hay pickup.

I think I am officially a redneck when my first thought upon seeing this shed full of hay was "MAN, what I couldn't do with all that hay!"

I only got to get 8 mid-square bales, for a total of 6,816 pounds. Leave it to me to figure out to the penny how miuch each and every pound cost, but no need for us all to be upset by that piece of doom.

The smell of fresh sweet hay is one of my favorites, right up there with Hawaiian Tropic suntain oil which makes me think of vacation, and freshly bedded stalls.

I too love the smell of fresh hay and fresh shavings. I wish I had that barn full of big green bales. What a sight.

Isnt it BEE YOU TI FUL?

Oh how I wish I had all that. Although I am getting either 22 or 32 of those bales delivered as soon as our new hay forks are made to carry them. I will be in heaven then!

Is that like the Hay depot or something? I wish we had a place like that to buy hay, we must buy all ours early now that they want to ship everything out of state. I doubt there's much to buy even now unless it stops raining soon and they get to cut again before it frosts. I hate having to store my own hay for months on end. That is a pretty site!

This is just one of my hay dealers. He raises his own but with the drought this year, he has had to buy from all over the country to take care of his regulars. His hay is better than any he can find elsewhere, but this new stuff we just picked up is pretty nice.

He is also super nice, he gave Barry some of his old hay forks yesterday that are toosmall for his needs but will be perfect for us--we just have to get a frame made for them. Every little bit helps!

I do not mind storing the hay for the season, I HATE having to use MAstercard to buy it in advance like this because there will not BE any more by the time I need it. So I am doing the buying while it is there and just sucking it up money wise--and thank God for Mastercard!

I am about 10K into already and not even close to done

OH lord - is it that time of the year again. Guess I shouldn't be suprised considering my horses are all getting their winter coats...and the leaves are turning yellow up here already.

We have a few good people we buy from - now to contact them and put in our orders.
