Karma gets me again

You would think I have learned my lesson by now--when you cut corners on horse care, it ALWAYS bites you in the butt.

I had to leave town bright and early yesterday to take the car to the dealership in st louis, and then stay there all day to wait for Barry's plane to land--he has been on vacation in Colorado and Utah playing silly boy games with his friend.

Of course, since it was me, I was late leaving town, and skimped on going to the farm to feed breakfast. It won't kill them, I tell myself--they have plenty of hay and fresh water.

Un huh. Never believe that. They are not okay. Had I checked on them, nothing would have been amiss, but since I did not, all hell broke loose.

We got home about 9 pm and I sent Barry to feed---a welcome home, so to speak. He calls right away telling me Gyro is wierd---either tying up or colicing. Oy! Any time the phone rings at my house after 9, I panic---nothing good can come of it.

I go hauling off fast as I can go, in the truck that still has the trailer on it---another sign things are urgent----Barry told me he did not have time to come fetch me in the car, he had to help her. He gets worked up about nothing, so that was terrifying. As I am backing up the trailer in the dark, fast fast fast, I belatedly worry whether I have run over a dog or hit the swimming pool, but I did not have time to worry about that.

Anyway, still dont know what is wrong with Gyro---some banamine and electrolytes were given, and she was eating, but her guts were seizing up for sure. Then she started dragging his right rear---like a nerve was mashed or something.

After a few hours of dealing with that, I am just watching her and cussing her little girl who has kicked me and gotten a metal manure fork in the butt for it, I hear Barry bellowing from the back of the horse trailer where he is looking for more Banamine.

Evidently he means business tonight so I go running up front and he is all amped up about the fact that Lucky has finally come to dinner and has a baby with her!

This raised a bunch of other issues of course, she needs to come in and be checked out etc......that required the use of a Gator and a lot of chasing and flashlights, but we got her in--she is a cute little sorrel filly, and she runs like a deer. She gives good kisses though.

A long nite all in all. Barry said Gyro is feeling better this morning and had moved her guts some, so hopefully whatever freak thing she was up to has passed.
