Finally! Gypsy foaled this morning, likely a little before 5 am. I was sure she would go last nite, but after hours of watching her pace, I gave up and went to bed. Lorna found her on the foalcam just as I was pulling it up around 7 a.m. I went right over to see and was glad to see that I had a healthy baby, and a girl at that. A little disappointed that of all things, she was sorrel, since Gypsy is brown and Boonsmal Cee Lena is blue roan, but at least she was healthy.
The drier she got though, the more white hairs showed up! Woo hoo, we got roan!
These hopping around pics were at lunchtime, so she was a few hours old, and this was her first time out of the stall.
She got a little hoppy, but it evidently scared her, as she slammed on the brakes quickly and almost knocked herself over.
It is amazing to me how much babies change in just a few short hours, from bony stick babies to filled out.
I took hundreds of pics after work. I turned them out to play for just a little while, but they had so much fun that I could not bear to bring them in. I hope they are enjoying themselves!

Gypsy loves her baby, and was so content that she even allowed me to get pics of her that are not hideous, which is dang near impossible to do. For such a pretty horse, Gypsy is so unphotogenic. Of course, this one is not great as she is chewing or hollering, but baby girl looks cute and that is the point. Look how she is rounding out already.
I have no idea what I will call her. Gypsy's real name is High Brow Gypsy (High Brow Hickory x Cardanita x Peponita) and dad is Boonsmal Cee Lena (Peptoboonsmal x Holly Cee Lena x Doc O'lena).
Bring on the ideas!

OMG, I love her chrome! Her mama has such a pretty face! ;) I loved all the pictures...you could show us a hundred more, LOL!
Name ideas.... Spirit? Tika? Hope? Bling?
Congrats you finally got your roan!
Beautiful filly Paige. And a roan to boot.
Is she a "keeper"??
she is gorgeous!
How about a registered name of Cee a Boonsmal Gypsy?
High on a boonsmal gypsy
I think you should include de Lena part of her parentage in her name..
Darling baby girl! It is always unbelievable how horses are born and are running around and look cute so soon after birth, unlike us humans.
Awesome I was thinking she would go last night after your last post. She is beautiful!!! My favorite picture of her is when she is looking over mom's neck when mom was grazing :)
I so know your pain of disappointment. Our maiden mare that foaled a month ago is a Loud Overo Bay and we thought for sure we would get some great paint markings...nope sure didn't, she is solid color with 3 white socks and a white face. I couldn't believe it. So now I'm leaving it up to my other one to give me the chrome I want!!
Can't wait to see more pics of her!!
No name advice, but I think the upside-down teardrop blaze is interesting. I love babies and that one is beautiful!
Another beauty-------!
How about Peppy
part of those long Pepto names for mom
part of those long Peppo names for dad
Enjoy Carol
Aww... I was waiting for you to post pictures of her!! She is so cute! I love her facial markings, sort of like her momma!
If I don't get a job soon maybe I can just hang out at your place and watch the babies all day! :)
All those stars? Must be a Celestial body. How about Celest?
Gorgeous! Bring on the pictures!
Ooh, a roan! Congrats!
How about "Low Brow Lena"? Or "Gypsy's Boon"?
Aaaawwww....she is beautiful!!
congrat's paige!! I'm looking forward to seeing her fill out :)
Hi-C Brow Lena
Hi-C Boon Lena
Oh, she's so precious! I love those knobby knees!
Let's see....
Mystic?
Congrats, I know you are excited!
I have no name thoughts but she is a beauty Paige. An absolute beauty.
Darling, darling beautiful filly! Congrats! Sorry I just now made it over here after you twittered me the other night!
Hugs!
It's probably already taken but, High Brow Boon popped into my head immediately.
How about Gypsy Lena? I love those hopping pics!!
Congrats on the roan Paige - I too love the unusual colours but I'll take what I can get so long as it's sound and (hopefully) pretty.
My primary breed is Standardbred - about 85% of them are bay & 10% are chestnut - that doesn't leave much room for 'other'.
However!
My homebred boy, now a 2 year old in basic training, is TURNING INTO A BAY ROAN!! OMG, you have no idea how exciting this is - the DNA ID/Freeze Brand guy was through the race barn the other day and commented to my partner how he thinks he'll need to submit a colour change to Flash's registration, he's gone THAT roan.
Flash was born a bay with black points and a few white hairs on his forehead, one white ankle sock and one stocking on his rear legs.
Right from jump I could see white hairs in the black on his hind legs, I asked, ever hopeful, could my colt be a roan?
Nope, said the old timers, but all the REALLY good ones have some white hairs don't you know - why, I remember... (don't horsemen tell the best stories e-vah).
Long story short, those white hairs kept multiplying and creeping up his body further & further, up the legs, over the flanks & sides, across his butt, & now even heavily on his neck (though his head is still solid bay).
My secondary breed is Morgan; not a lot of colour variety there either. But, my liver chestnut mare is in foal to a palomino stud - genetically, it's a pretty even shot at either chestnut or palo. Guess which one I'd rather see on a healthy baby one sunny day next month?
Your baby photos always get me so excited; you really should submit some of them for calendars or something.
The pictures are just wonderful. With them all cuddled up and stuff. I like any name with Cee in it! Can't imagine why. I kinda like Gypsy Cee.
Well she's a sight to see!!!
Still waiting for mine *taps fingers impatiently*.
but anywho. How about:
1. High Cee Lena
2. Cee Lena Highbrow
3. Cee Me High Lena
lol. Don't ask. I know they are horrible, but my minds out of it. Haven't been sleeping much!
She's a cutie!!
How about High Brow Lena or Gypsy Rose Lena?
