LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER: SHAWN FLARIDA WINS 2007 NRHA OPEN FUTURITY CHAMPIONSHIP ON ARCESE QUARTER HORSES USA’S WIMPYS LITTLE CHIC
They saved the best for last Saturday night at the 2007 NRHA Open Futurity Finals. The final rider, NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider and NRHA Professional Shawn Flarida, scored a 231.5 to win the Open Futurity Championship on Wimpys Little Chic, owned by Arcese Quarter Horses USA, of Weatherford, TX. Flarida has won the Open Futurity Championship four times; tonight’s win was déjà vu. In 2002, Flarida won the NRHA Open Futurity Championship on Wimpys Little Chic’s sire, Wimpys Little Step, owned by Mark Schols of College Grove, TN. Congratulations to Shawn Flarida and Wimpys Little Chic.
MARCY VER MEER WINS 2007 NRHA OPEN FUTURITY RESERVE CHAMPIONSHIP AND ELITE TRAILER INTERMEDIATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
In a run that brought cheers and thunderous applause, Marcy Ver Meer scored a 230 on Gunners Special Nite, owned by Bar Double C Ranch. Ver Meer, of Cave Creek, AZ, took home the Open Futurity Reserve Championship and the Elite Trailer Intermediate Open Futurity Championship honors with the flashy stallion that resembles his father – NRHA’s newest Million Dollar Sire - Gunner. Congratulations to Marcy Ver Meer and Gunners Special Nite.
I hear there was quite a bit of controversy over this, but those are the results. I have to admit that I am glad to see the Wimpy filly win it instead of the Wimpy colt Shawn Flarida showed as well (that won at Congress). I just like to shake things up sometimes, and can be contrary, so it makes me happy to see No Sweep of major events, I don't care who the horse is.

I believe at the NRHA sale there was a record setting sale of $200,000 if I remember right it was a buckskin stallion by Wimpy's Little Step. Very pretty horse.
That must have been Saturday, the only one I missed---their sales have not been as high over the last couple of years, so that is GREAT!
Do you remember who the dam was?
It was Sat. I believe she was a daughter of Shining Spark. I'll see if I can look it up.
I found it---Steppin off Sparks---interesting how financially beneficial it has been to allow her trainer back into the NRHA after his suspension, isnt it?
I believe it was this horse:
Steppin Off Sparks 2005 Buckskin Stallion by Wimpys Little Step out of Setting Off Sparks by Shining Spark
